Showcase is Here! - Behind the Scenes with Education Co-Director Shelby Ravetch

Our current Zoom-based existence hasn’t stopped us from embracing our love of all things theater! Join us on Friday, December 11 5-7 pm via Zoom for an evening filled with wonderful performances.

HOOLIGAN Theatre Company's annual Showcase is an educational workshop series led by our Education Department that is designed to give students of all experience levels an opportunity to learn new skills and leadership roles within the performing arts. In addition to singing and dancing, past workshops have also included music theory, design, and ASL!

The program culminates in a cabaret that lets participants showcase what they have learned throughout their workshop and rehearsal experiences. This not only gives students a creative outlet to express themselves through, but it also gives students a chance to take risks and learn new skills in a fun and inclusive environment!

To get everyone in the Showcase spirit, here’s an inside look at what Showcase has been like this quarter from one of our heads of Education, Shelby Ravetch! 

How was the whole process of running Showcase virtually? How does it compare to an in-person Showcase?

Doing shows and programs virtually can definitely be challenging, but after working out a lot of the kinks during our Spring showcase, this Showcase process has been a lot smoother. 

​I definitely miss the interaction we get when we have in-person check-ins and get to see more sneak peeks of people's numbers. You just don't get that same connection virtually--but also, this format has allowed people to connect and work on projects from all over the world which is so amazing!! I'm so glad we get to facilitate an opportunity to be creative during this time.

Best part of Showcase this season?

​One of my favorite moments during this process were the days Ethan and I talked to all the directors about their vision and what project they wanted to do. Even over Zoom, I could feel the energy through the screen as people talked about their excitement to direct for the first time or to finally put together a number that they always loved. I am so excited for our virtual viewing party and to share what people have been working on all quarter!!!
