Do you miss watching theatre? Want to support HOOLIGAN members who love performing? Then come check out our Annual Fall One Acts, hosted by our Casting department on Friday, December 4th at 5pm on Zoom! Watch as HOOLIGANs show you what they’ve been working on all quarter. Until then, read what some of what the HOOLIGANs involved have to say about One Acts!

But first, what is One Acts?

One Acts is a festival of short one act plays written, directed, and performed by our very own HOOLIGANs. This event is normally hosted in the Fall in the Kerckhoff Grand Salon, but going along with this season’s theme of Resilience, we will be continuing the yearly tradition and hosting this year’s One Acts over Zoom.

How has the process of online rehearsals been?

“It was good! It added levity to my otherwise packed weeks and was a nice time to decompress. I feel like my director made rehearsals super accessible and an all-around positive experience.” -Nicole Anticona Araujo (Hester- Ex-Games), 3rd Year Sociology major and Double Film/Theater Minor

What has been your favorite part of directing a One Act?

“My favorite part has been seeing the finished product and thinking about how far we’ve come since we first started. It was so great working with the actors and giving them feedback and hearing their thoughts on whether they think their character would act this way. Seeing them bring the show to life was amazing and especially gratifying since Zoom made it hard to feel connected but they worked really hard and I’m really proud of what they’ve created.” -Jessica Egan (Director- Ex-Games), 3rd year American Literature and Culture major

What has been your favorite part of the process?

“My favorite part of the process has been exploring a character that represents a confrontational side of myself that I don’t often get to play as an actor. It has been a super fun test for me!” -Berk Uzman (Girl’s Want- I Just Wanna Talk), 2nd Year Gender Studies major and Double LGBTQ Studies/Theater minor

​​Is this your first time writing a One Act? What was the process like?

“Yes, this is my first time writing a One Act. Laura and I wrote it collaboratively so it was really nice to be able to bounce ideas back and forth during the whole process. We’d just write a little bit at a time, read it aloud to each other, and make little adjustments from there to make a joke funnier or clarify something about the plot until we were both happy with it.” -Korina Moriarty (Co-Writer- Ex-Games), 4th year Gender Studies & Musicology major

What are you most excited about for this year’s One Acts?

“I am most excited to get to see everyone’s hard work at the end! I feel like with this format of One Acts, there is so much more possibility in terms of editing in the final product that just can’t be done in a live show. Not to mention that I’m definitely going to enjoy watching One Acts from the comfort of my own bed. I will for sure be throwing my own pajama party.” -Miyu Roberts (Jules- Less than or Equal to), 2nd year Communications major
