Are you interested in what goes on behind the scenes of theatrical productions? Do you like supporting our fabulous HOOLIGANs in their out-of-the-box endeavors? Then mark your calendars for this Friday, November 20th at 6pm, as our Production Management department presents its first ever Texpo: a technical design exposition, on the HOOLIGAN Youtube Channel! But until then, we’ve reached out to some of the HOOLIGANs involved to get you the inside scoop on Texpo! But first, what is Texpo? Texpo is a new event hosted by our Production Management department! Through a series of workshops on all the things that happen behind the scenes of a show, participants prepare their own design (in any department, from lighting to costumes and beyond) that fit the theme of “Young, Dumb, and Broke” to be premiered at this exposition. How did HOOLIGAN come up with the idea of Texpo? "The Production Management department came up with the initial concept during a brainstorming session last spring when we were thinking of ideas for tech to get involved in theater virtually. We wanted to create an event where people of any experience level could create and showcase their technical designs, as well as learn new skills and try new things. This initial idea was then developed into Texpo over the summer through meetings with HOOLIGAN's executive producers and the Production Management department, and we are proud to present it this fall!" -Kate Logan (Production Manager), 3rd year Undeclared major Now, let's get to know some of our participants and workshop leaders!
What was your experience in theater before being a part of Texpo? "Theater has been a part of my life for a long time. I saw my first show (Grease!) when I was 4 and then I started to act when I was 8. It wasn’t until high school that I got into the technical side through lighting. During high school, I worked at a variety of theaters to build up my skills to get into UCLA. HOOLIGAN’s production of Spring Awakening was the first major show for which I ever designed the lighting"! -Malcom Wilson ("How to Present!" Workshop Leader), 3rd year Theater major How did you come to the conclusion of your project? "In my own Texpo project, I am proposing a stage adaptation of my favorite childhood movie, Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper. I went through the process of finding a script, watching the movie, taking notes on the scenes and mood, and making Pinterest boards." -Lisa Imai (Participant and Workshop Leader), 3rd year Environmental Science Major What was your favorite part of the experience? "I've loved seeing everyone's creative and original ideas! Some of our participants have gone for some out-of-the-box concepts that I'm so excited for everyone to see. Everyone is working on something interesting, unique, and that they're passionate about!" -Kate Logan (Production Manager), 3rd year Undeclared major We can't wait for you all to see our HOOLIGANs' unique designs, so make sure to check out their presentations this Friday! You won't want to miss it!
